SUNGAI PETANI: Two men were arrested yesterday for allegedly attempting to steal cables near the Dataran Jam Besar clock tower here.
Kuala Muda police chief ACP Hanyan Ramlan said police personnel on patrol detected the activities of the two suspects, aged 42 and 44, at about 4 pm.
He said the incident location was about 80 metres from the clock tower, where an open manhole cover was found with both suspects discovered inside it.
“The two suspects are believed to be brothers, and checks on their records found that each has 12 previous offences related to drugs,” he said in a statement today.
Both suspects also tested positive for methamphetamine.
The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.
