PETALING JAYA: U Mobile has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd to enhance its workforce capabilities in 5G-Advanced (5G-A) and artificial intelligence (AI), as part of efforts to strengthen its digital talent pipeline.

The MoU was formalised at Mobile World Congress 2026 in Barcelona by U Mobile chief technology officer Woon Ooi Yuen and Huawei Malaysia deputy CEO Zac Chow.

Under the collaboration, both parties will roll out three key initiatives, namely a management empowerment programme for senior leadership, a localised 5G-A and AI industrial training module, and a joint innovation module focused on developing future-oriented training approaches aligned with emerging technologies.

U Mobile said the partnership will enable it to tap into Huawei Malaysia’s global technical expertise, course materials and on-site support to strengthen internal competencies and support its growth in an increasingly 5G-A and AI-driven environment.

Woon said building the right talent pipeline is critical as the company positions itself as Malaysia’s newest 5G network provider. He added that the collaboration will support the company’s ambition to deliver enhanced ULTRA5G services and contribute to Malaysia’s broader digital agenda.

Chow said Huawei will leverage its global expertise in 5G-A and AI to help U Mobile optimise its talent development initiatives through localised systems, high-quality courses and technical support.

U Mobile said this is one of four MoUs it signed at MWC Barcelona this year as it continues to expand strategic partnerships to support its network and digital capabilities.
