Secret Service agents shot and killed an armed man who breached the secure perimeter of Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida early Sunday.

MIAMI: US Secret Service agents shot and killed an armed man who illegally entered the secure perimeter of President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. The incident occurred around 1:30 am local time while Trump was in Washington.

Agency spokesman Anthony Guglielmi confirmed the shooting in a social media post. “An armed man was shot & killed by U.S. Secret Service agents & @PBCountySheriff after unlawfully entering the secure perimeter at Mar-a-Lago early this morning,” he stated.

The suspect, a man in his early 20s, was observed at the property’s north gate carrying what appeared to be a shotgun and a fuel can. Agents confronted the man and fired shots, with no US officers injured in the incident.

Trump has been the target of several previous assassination plots or attempts. Earlier this month, Ryan Routh, 59, was sentenced to life in prison for plotting to assassinate the president at a Florida golf course in September 2024.

That planned attack came two months after an assassination attempt on Trump in Pennsylvania. During that 2024 rally, 20-year-old Matthew Crooks fired several shots, with one grazing Trump’s right ear and a rallygoer being killed.

Crooks was immediately shot and killed by security forces, with his motive remaining unknown. The Pennsylvania attack proved to be a turning point in Trump’s political comeback.
