Malaysians call for digital queue system at public hospitals, so patients can wait in cars instead of long hours sitting inside crowded waiting areas.

A simple question about hospital waiting times has struck a nerve online after a Malaysian shared their frustration over long queues at major public hospitals.

“Can big hospitals implement an online queue number system?

“At least we could wait in our cars or somewhere else.

“When our queue number is almost up, then only we come in.

“Right now, our backs are hurting from sitting and waiting for so long,” the user wrote in a Threads post that has since gained traction.

The post resonated with many Malaysians who said they, too, have endured hours of waiting — often while unwell — just to see a doctor.

Several pointed out that long waiting times are not new, but questioned why larger hospitals have yet to adopt a digital queue system similar to those used by banks, government agencies, and even some private clinics.

However, not everyone agreed it would be easy to implement. A few netizens noted that public hospitals handle high patient volumes daily, including emergency and walk-in cases, which may complicate scheduling and queue management.

Still, many maintained that digital improvements are long overdue, arguing that even partial solutions — such as staggered appointment times or live queue tracking — would significantly improve patient comfort.
“Yes, I agree. We could even grab breakfast and reduce the crowding inside,” one user called ndschaa wrote.

“I’ve read about this before — the reason hospitals still use the old system is because there are many elderly patients who don’t know how to use these digital systems. That’s why they continue with the traditional method.

“Even at JPJ, this has already been implemented, right? It happened to my husband — there was an elderly uncle who didn’t have a smartphone and couldn’t scan the QR code. It was quite pitiful to see,” swahinibelmira shared.

“The problem is, once you enter the hospital, there’s no phone signal. How are we supposed to receive queue notifications?” diari3d_umi asked.

“I’m even scared to go buy food at the canteen. I’m already hungry, and I’m alone,” _ftnqilah lamented.
