RM1 kuih koci at Taman Suria Ramadan bazaar sparks online debate over food quality and sincerity

A Malaysian woman has voiced her frustration after purchasing a kuih koci at the Taman Suria Ramadan bazaar, saying the traditional dessert was unusually hard and not fit to eat.

In a post shared on Threads.com, she described the kuih as looking pelik (weird) and unlike the chewy texture she was familiar with. “Kuih koci RM1 and it’s not edible because it’s weird. I have always eaten kuih koci and it is chewy, but this one is hard,” she wrote.

She urged sellers to avoid offering food if they are not confident in their cooking.

The post quickly drew reactions online. Some netizens speculated that the kuih might have been prepared earlier, frozen, and reheated, while others suggested it could have been leftover stock from the previous day.

Several commenters stressed the importance of sincerity in selling food, noting that without it, sellers may not receive berkat (blessings).

Meanwhile, other kuih koci vendors responded by sharing photos of their own creations and inviting the woman to try theirs, highlighting the variety and quality available at bazaars.

The incident has sparked wider debate about food standards at Ramadan bazaars, with many Malaysians agreeing that authenticity and freshness are key to preserving the reputation of traditional desserts.
