A woman’s complaint about men parking in ladies-only parking bays has gone viral on Threads, sparking heated reactions and frustration among Malaysian netizens.
The post was shared by @nanafyriana, who questioned why some men continue to park in spaces clearly designated for women.
“Don’t you understand that men shouldn’t park in ladies’ parking?” she wrote.
“It clearly says ‘for women only’, and there’s even a picture of heels on the parking spot.”
She added another reminder in a follow-up post, urging men to be more considerate.
“Hopefully after this, all men will be more alert. Ladies’ parking is only for solo women and women with children. Don’t use the excuse that you have a wife or a daughter.”
Her post quickly gained attention online, collecting over 5,000 likes, nearly 1,000 comments and more than 500 shares and reposts as Malaysians flooded the comment section with their own experiences and opinions.
Many commenters criticised those who ignore the rules and use the spaces for convenience.
fitryyei wrote “Just the lazy type who doesn’t want to search for parking and doesn’t want to park far away. When I come here, I never park in EV, OKU, family or ladies’ parking because those are meant for them. I prefer parking further away so nobody waits for my spot and I can relax in the car for a bit.”
“They don’t care. In their minds it’s probably ‘whoever sees it first gets it’, while others are thinking maybe someone who actually needs it should use it,” wawamohdkarim commented.
Some netizens also pointed out that many people do not understand the real reason behind the special parking bays.
“Those of you who feel triggered probably do the same thing. Before getting angry, learn why solo ladies’ parking exists.
“It’s not just to give special treatment. There was once the case of Canny Ong Lay Kian, who was abducted from a mall car park before being murdered.
“That’s why ladies’ parking is placed close to the entrance. If anything happens, people can see it quickly and help,” ain_.sya explained.
Others said similar behaviour happens in other priority parking areas as well.
ayinnning wrote “Family parking and OKU parking also get taken. I’ve even seen a trick where the husband hides behind the seat while the wife parks in ladies’ parking. I’ve seen it many times at KLCC.”
Meanwhile, cine_qj said many Malaysians simply lack awareness.
“Many people don’t know why ladies’ parking exists, and even some women don’t know when they should use it. It’s only for a woman alone or a woman with children in the car.”
