SAC Zaihairul Idrus is the new Perlis deputy police chief, focusing on AI, border crime and public confidence in the police force

KANGAR: SAC Zaihairul Idrus has been appointed as the new Deputy Chief of Police for Perlis.

He replaces SAC Mohd Ismail Ibrahim, who retired effective today.

The appointment was formalised at a Rank Wearing and Duty Handover Ceremony witnessed by Perlis Police Chief Datuk Muhammad Abdul Halim at the Perlis Contingent Police Headquarters.

Zaihairul, originally from Simpang Empat, Perlis, previously served as the Melaka Criminal Investigation Department Chief.

He brings 26 years of experience in the Royal Malaysia Police, including 24 years in the Criminal Investigation Department.

Speaking to reporters, he said his key focuses include empowering the use of technology like artificial intelligence.

He also aims to boost public confidence in police capabilities and ensure the force’s integrity is maintained.

“I will support all directives and actions of the Perlis Police Chief and continue the leadership legacy towards achieving the team’s vision and mission,” he said.

He added that border crime aspects will also be given attention by strengthening inter-agency cooperation.

This includes collaboration with the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency in areas like Padang Besar and Wang Kelian.

He stated that discussions have been held with the Perlis Police Chief regarding AKPS operations.

It is understood that AKPS is expected to begin operations around June, enhancing enforcement coordination at the state border.
