Teen cosplayer charged with allegedly attacking Amos Yee at a Singapore anime event

An 18-year-old cosplayer has been officially charged in Singapore for allegedly assaulting convicted child-sex offender Amos Yee during an anime convention at Suntec Singapore. Bosco Chun Ho Wang appeared by video link from the Central Police Division today, accused of punching and kicking the 27-year-old at about 2 pm last Saturday. Court documents also include a public nuisance count, citing his shouting and aggressive conduct toward Yee.

Chun was granted S$5,000 bail and is due back in court on June 2. The alleged incident occurred at Doujima (also called Doujin Market), a pop-culture event over the weekend at the Suntec Convention and Exhibition Centre. Online footage shows a cosplayer dressed as Yuji Itadori from the manga and anime Jujutsu Kaisen striking Yee as attendees looked on.

Organizers stated that Yee had been banned and his tickets revoked after he announced plans to attend. “We do not condone violence,” they said, adding that ensuring the safety of visitors and exhibitors remains their top priority.

Yee returned to Singapore in March after being deported from the United States. He is also facing separate charges under Singapore’s Enlistment Act for alleged national service offences. In 2018 he was granted asylum in the U.S., but in 2021 he was imprisoned there for grooming and sexually exploiting a minor.
