A 62-year-old man is injured after a crocodile attacked him while fishing at a jetty in Port Dickson early today.

PORT DICKSON: A man was injured in an attack by a crocodile while fishing at a jetty area here early today.

Negeri Sembilan police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said initial investigations found that the victim, 62, had been fishing alone at night before the incident occurred at about 4 am while he was near the river.

“The crocodile is believed to have pounced on the victim’s left leg and dragged him into the river. However, the victim managed to escape after clinging to a large rock,” he said in a statement today.

The victim then managed to climb to the riverbank and seek help from family members before being taken to a hospital for treatment.

He is currently receiving treatment and undergoing surgery at Port Dickson Hospital, and suffered injuries including a broken left toe, broken left ankle and multiple cuts on both legs.

The case has been referred to the Department of Wildlife and National Parks for further action.

Meanwhile, according to the victim’s adopted daughter, Nursyuhadah Jamaludin (pic), her father is in stable condition but traumatised by the incident.

“He is in pain because his leg from the ankle to the thigh was injured due to the crocodile attack. Fortunately, he is safe,” she said.

Negeri Sembilan PERHILITAN director Faizal Izham Pikri, when contacted, said authorities have increased monitoring at the location and placed warning signs to alert the public.

He added that crocodile traps may be set if necessary and urged the public to avoid river areas known to be crocodile habitats.
