Singapore embassy partners with Indonesia to identify two bodies recovered following the Mount Dukono eruption

The Singapore Embassy in Jakarta has been collaborating with Indonesian officials to verify the identities of two bodies discovered near Mount Dukono, thought to be those of missing Singapore citizens, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) announced. Embassy personnel have maintained consistent communication with the families involved, providing consular aid and support throughout the identification efforts.

In its release, the MFA expressed gratitude to the Indonesian search and rescue teams—totaling over 150 members—for their relentless work under extremely tough and dangerous conditions. “We greatly value the commitment and expertise demonstrated by the Indonesian authorities,” the ministry added.

Indonesia’s National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) reported that the three hikers who perished in Mount Dukono’s recent eruption have been recovered, concluding the formal search and rescue mission on Sunday. The volcano, situated on Halmahera Island’s northern shore in North Maluku province, erupted on Friday morning.

The event resulted in three fatalities and led to the evacuation of 17 hikers—seven Singaporeans and ten Indonesians—who were all brought to safety. Officials are monitoring the volcano and remain vigilant for any new developments.
